The Yenisei script is a regional variant of the Old Turkic script (also known as the Orkhon script). It was used mainly in the Yenisei River region (modern-day Siberia, Russia) by early Turkic tribes, particularly the Kyrgyz and other Siberian Turkic peoples.
It shares the same general structure as the Orkhon inscriptions but has distinct glyph shapes and local adaptations.
This writing system was later used within the Uyghur Khaganate. Additionally, a Yenisei variant is known from 9th-century Yenisei Kyrgyz inscriptions, and it has likely cousins in the Talas Valley of Turkestan and the Old Hungarian alphabet of the 10th century.
