The Baybayin alphabet is thought to have developed from the Kawi script found in Java, Bali, and Sumatra, which is believed to have its roots in the Pallava script originating from southern India and derived from Brahmi. Today, the Baybayin alphabet is mainly used for decorative purposes, while the Latin alphabet is employed for writing Tagalog.
