Aramaic is the language of two Bible books – Daniel and Ezra. It is the language of the Jewish Talmud. Aramaic was also the language of Jesus Christ. It is still spoken today by small groups of people, particularly by the Assyrians.
The Aramaic alphabet also became a base for the creation and adaptation of specific writing systems in some other Semitic languages, such as the Hebrew alphabet and the Arabic alphabet.
