Lepontic is an ancient Celtic language that was spoken in parts of what is now Switzerland and northern Italy during the Iron Age. The Lepontic script is the writing system used for this language, and it is considered one of the earliest Celtic scripts.
The alphabet of Lugano, based on inscriptions found in northern Italy and Canton Ticino, was used to record Lepontic inscriptions, among the oldest testimonies of any Celtic language, in use from the 7th to the 5th centuries BC.
