The Osmanya alphabet is a writing system developed in the early 20th century for the Somali language by Osman Yusuf Kenadid. The Somali language is traditionally written using the Latin alphabet, but various indigenous scripts, including Osmanya, were created in attempts to develop a writing system more closely aligned with the phonetic characteristics of Somali.
