Tamizhi, also known as Tamil-Brahmi, is the oldest script employed to write Old Tamil, ranging from the 3rd century BCE to the 3rd century CE. This script has been discovered widely on cave walls, pottery, and coins throughout Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Sri Lanka and even reaching as far as Egypt.
As a precursor to the contemporary Tamil script, it represents the earliest documented writing system in the area. It is considered one of the oldest scripts in India, with findings at Keeladi/Keezhadi indicating usage as early as 500-800 BCE.
