The Art of Living Creatively

Author, artist, designer and holistic healer Chriselda Barretto is building a creative world in which words, beauty and wellbeing are inseparable.

Some creatives build careers. Chriselda Barretto is building an entire world.

An author, poet, speaker, artist, jewellery designer and holistic healer, Chriselda moves naturally between disciplines that others might keep separate. Her writing explores human emotion and transformation; her visual work celebrates individuality and beauty; and her approach to wellbeing encourages people to slow down, breathe and reconnect with themselves.

It is an unusually broad creative identity, but not an accidental one. Every part of her work begins with the same instinct: to observe deeply and turn experience into something meaningful.

โ€œI have never believed that creativity should be confined to one form. Sometimes an idea becomes a poem. Sometimes it becomes a story, a piece of jewellery, a painting or a healing practice. The form may change, but the intention remains the same.โ€

From the World of Aviation to a Life in the Arts

Before establishing herself as a multidisciplinary creative, Chriselda worked as an Aviation Safety Training Instructor; a role that demanded confidence, discipline, technical knowledge and the ability to communicate clearly under pressure.

Her professional background also includes studies in business and chemistry, giving her a distinctive combination of analytical precision and creative intuition. Years of travel introduced her to different people, languages, traditions and ways of understanding the world. Those experiences would later become an important source of inspiration for her books and artistic projects.

โ€œAviation taught me preparation, responsibility and presence,โ€ she explains. โ€œWhen you are training people in safety, communication has to be clear. You need to understand how people respond under pressure and how to reach them. Those lessons have stayed with me as a writer and speaker.โ€

Travel also sharpened her eye for detailโ€”the colour of a city at dusk, the rhythm of an unfamiliar language, the symbolism found in textiles, jewellery and architecture. Rather than simply visiting places, she absorbed their atmosphere.

That curiosity now runs through a body of work spanning fiction, nonfiction, poetry, travel writing, childrenโ€™s literature, journals and educational books.

Writing Without Boundaries

Chriseldaโ€™s catalogue resists easy classification. Her creative interests range from emotionally charged fiction and reflective poetry to historical subjects, language-learning books and personal-development journals.

Among her best-known projects is the Becoming Me and Be The Author journal series, which invites readers to approach healing through reflection, mindfulness and gentle self-examination. Her language-learning collection reflects another side of her curiosity: a fascination with communication, cultural identity and the ways in which scripts preserve human history.

She writes for adults, young people and children, adapting her voice while retaining a recognisable sense of emotional honesty.

โ€œI write about the subjects that continue asking questions in my mind. I may begin with a single emotion, an image or a historical detail. If it stays with me, I know there is something beneath it waiting to be explored.โ€

Her fiction often examines complicated relationships, vulnerability, desire, power and the difficult choices people make when emotion challenges reason. In her nonfiction, the approach is more reflective and research-driven, but the underlying interest remains human behaviour.

Whether she is writing about healing, communication, mythology or the darker dimensions of a relationship, Chriselda is drawn to what exists beneath appearances.

โ€œPeople are rarely only one thing”

She observes, โ€œStrength can exist beside fear. Love can exist beside anger. Someone may appear completely composed while carrying an entire storm within them. Those contradictions are where the most compelling stories begin.โ€

Creativity as a Form of Healing

For Chriselda, creativity is more than a profession. It is also a way of processing experience and restoring emotional balance.

Her work as a holistic healer, along with her experience teaching yoga and Zumba, has influenced her understanding of the relationship between the mind and body. Movement, breath, colour and language all become tools for reconnecting with oneself.

โ€œHealing is not always dramatic,โ€ she says. โ€œSometimes it begins with ten quiet minutes, a page in a journal, a walk, a stretch, a conversation or the decision to be kinder to yourself.โ€

This philosophy gives her work an inviting quality. She does not present wellbeing as perfection or insist upon a single path. Instead, she encourages experimentation and self-awareness.

Her perspective feels particularly relevant in a culture that frequently treats exhaustion as ambition and constant productivity as success. Chriseldaโ€™s message is gentler but no less purposeful: pause long enough to hear what your mind and body have been trying to tell you.

A Personal Language of Style

Fashion is another form of storytelling in Chriseldaโ€™s creative universe.

Her style is elegant, feminine and polished, balancing classic tailoring with colour, texture and expressive detail. She is equally at ease in a structured suit, an understated evening dress or an outfit enlivened by a distinctive piece of jewellery.

A woman in a yellow sweater and a pink satin skirt stands elegantly in a modern interior space, with decorative elements in the background.

โ€œFashion communicates before we say a word. It can reflect confidence, mood, culture and imagination. I enjoy clothing that feels elegant but still allows the individual to be seen.โ€

Her interest in jewellery design follows the same philosophy. A piece should not merely decorate the wearer; it should carry personality, memory or meaning. She is drawn to objects that feel intentionalโ€”beautiful enough to attract the eye, yet personal enough to invite a story.

In front of the camera, this philosophy translates into imagery that is refined without appearing distant. Her visual identity favours natural expressions, graceful silhouettes and editorial settings, from contemporary galleries and literary events to city streets and elegant interiors.

The result is not fashion for fashionโ€™s sake. It is style as self-definition.

In Conversation with Chriselda Barretto

Your career includes writing, art, design, wellness and public speaking. How do you describe yourself?

I usually describe myself as a creative person before choosing a particular title. Writing is central to my life, but I do not experience creativity in separate compartments. Art, movement, jewellery, poetry and storytelling are different languages through which I express ideas.

Where do your stories begin?

They often begin with a feeling. It might be an emotion I cannot immediately explain, a piece of dialogue I overhear in my imagination or a character who arrives with a very strong presence. Sometimes a story grows from research or from a place I have visited. I allow the idea to develop before deciding exactly what it wants to become.

A woman in a beige outfit sitting on a chair, holding two books titled 'The Consent Code' and 'Underworld', with a decorative living space in the background.

How did your years in aviation influence you?

They made me disciplined and highly aware of communication. Aviation safety training taught me how important it is to remain calm, prepared and precise. It also gave me the confidence to speak to different audiences. Travel broadened my understanding of culture and reminded me that the world is filled with stories.

Your work moves between romantic fiction and serious nonfiction. Is that difficult?

Each form requires a different kind of concentration, but I enjoy the contrast. Fiction allows me to enter the emotional world of characters, while nonfiction asks me to investigate, question and organise ideas carefully. Both require empathy. Whether I am creating a fictional relationship or examining a real social issue, I need to understand why people behave as they do.

What attracts you to emotionally complex characters?

Perfect characters do not feel truthful to me. I am interested in people who carry contradictionsโ€”the person who is powerful but emotionally guarded, or compassionate but deeply wounded. Complexity creates tension, and tension creates movement within a story.

What does fashion mean to you personally?

Fashion is a form of expression. I love elegance, but I also believe clothing should feel natural to the person wearing it. The most memorable style is not necessarily the loudest. It is the style that makes someone feel present, comfortable and unmistakably themselves.

A woman in a beige suit with tailored trousers and a fitted top, standing confidently in a modern interior space with a stylish decor.

How does your work in holistic wellbeing connect with your writing?

Both begin with listening. In healing, we learn to listen to the body and emotions. In writing, we listen to characters, memories and ideas. Journaling can connect these worlds because writing allows us to notice patterns that may otherwise remain hidden.

What do you hope readers experience through your books?

I hope they feel something genuine. They might feel understood, entertained, challenged or inspired to look at a subject differently. I do not expect every reader to respond in the same way, but I want the work to stay with them after they have closed the book.

What advice would you offer to someone afraid to express themselves creatively?

Begin privately and release the need to be perfect. Write one paragraph. Draw one shape. Move to one song. Creativity grows when we give ourselves permission to make something before judging whether it is good enough.

What are you working towards next?

I am continuing to develop projects across fiction, nonfiction, poetry and educational publishing. I am also interested in creating more connections between writing, visual art and wellbeing. I want every new project to feel like a natural evolution while still allowing me to experiment.

A Creative Life Still Unfolding

A woman wearing a black sweater and a long black leather skirt, posing confidently in a modern interior space with stylish decor.

What distinguishes Chriselda Barretto is not simply the number of disciplines she explores, but the sense of connection between them.

Her books examine inner lives. Her journals create space for reflection. Her art and jewellery celebrate beauty and individuality. Her wellness work encourages greater awareness, while her personal style presents elegance as something expressive rather than restrictive.

Together, these pursuits form the portrait of a woman unwilling to reduce herself to a single definition.

โ€œI think we continue becoming throughout our lives.โ€

Chriselda says, โ€œWe are allowed to learn, change direction and discover new ways of expressing who we are. Reinvention does not mean losing yourself. Sometimes it is how you finally meet yourself.โ€

For Chriselda, creativity is not an escape from life. It is a way of entering it more fullyโ€”with curiosity, courage and an enduring belief that even difficult experiences can be transformed into something that speaks, heals and endures.

Meet the Creator โ€“ Chriselda

Hi! Iโ€™m Chriseldaโ€”a writer, poet, speaker, healer, jewelry designer, artist, podcaster, and blogger. Of all the things I love, three stand out the most:
๐ŸŽจ Art โ€“ Iโ€™m a lifelong creative, passionate about painting and sketching. My mind is always buzzing with new, beautiful ideas.
๐Ÿ“– Teaching โ€“ My love for education began unexpectedly while working as an Aviation Safety Training Instructor, where I thrived on helping others learn and grow.
๐Ÿ—ฃ Languages โ€“ As a multilingual speaker, Iโ€™ve always been fascinated by the power of language to boost brain function and sharpen the mind.

In todayโ€™s interconnected world, language proficiency is more than a skillโ€”itโ€™s a gateway to meaningful connections, cognitive growth, and endless opportunities. Studies show that learning a new language enhances memory, problem-solving, and critical thinking, while also improving focus, multitasking, and listening skills. It even helps stave off cognitive decline and keeps the brain sharp!

Thatโ€™s why I created the โ€˜Learn To Writeโ€™ seriesโ€”to make language learning simple, creative, and fun! When you enjoy the process, learning becomes effortless. And since language boosts creativity, the more you practice, the more imaginative and inspired youโ€™ll become.

Enigma – First Review

Read Between The Lines (Oct 12 2019)

****A journey through love, lust and passion!

I wasn’t sure what to expect when I got this. I do enjoy poetry I rather enjoy all different genres of writing. I am definitely a lover of words with that out of the way I will leave you with my thoughts on Enigma: Erotic Soul Poetry.

This book was sometimes more interesting than exciting, but that did nothing to lessen my enjoyment of the collection. These poems are about sex — every strange, beautiful, passionate and awkward aspect of sex. That doesn’t necessarily make them ‘sexy’ though. Some where more passionate than sexy. These poems brought you into the mind of the lovers depicted in each poem and allowed you to envision the love and passion between them.

I loved just how many different niches of the human sexual experience are represented here. Each poem is to be enjoyed and judged individually. Every piece tells it’s own story while keeping within the theme and style of the book overall. It’s too hard to choose one poem which stands out above the rest, I do have a few that I enjoyed while there was a couple I really enjoyed. One of the ones I really enjoyed was Mirage. While some of these poems stood out more than others they where all unique and enjoyable. If you enjoy poetry and the expression written within itโ€™s words you will enjoy this title.
