AN ODE TO DIMI

My friend, one of the dearest

T’was never meant to be for us

But I know you adored me

Even dared to protect me

That you told me years later

You followed me home after school

Making sure I stayed safe under your watchful pool!

And didn’t you write my name on your shoes,

Splattered for all to see…it was a big blush for me!

Utterly kind-hearted, honest and genuine

Years passed us by but fate did intervene

We did speak years after, a meet was not in our ‘has-beens’

For you left earth onto another heavenly scene!

Our talks gathered a lot of memories and momentum

Gave me the feeling of your unrest and dark guilt hidden

Hope you found your light, your time here though a given!

You asked me then to write about us

A fictitious story of love which could have been

But my dearest YOU were the writer, you wrote so well,

A talent you showed me yet from others you kept superbly hidden!

We will meet again, one day I promise

Until then, I share this poem for you…from me

A few words to line the pages of my next book

Out of gratitude, love, a priceless gift to a dear friend,

knowing no earthly fee!

A poem by CHRISELDA BARRETTO

In remembrance of a very dear friend!!
